BTech ends

Four years passed since we came here, and they passed so soon. Wish I still had some time, (not via the suppli route, mind you). Some are leaving for higher studies, some for jobs, me personally for job, but if that doesn't work out in a couple of years, I may give a shot at higjer education.
We all are moving off in different directions, some of us will be in the same city, but it's unlikely that there will be any gathering of more than 8-10 people ever again. We all are going to miss the bakchodi at the circle, the daily ritual of kataoing someone, and above all we all would miss each other. Time and work pressure would definitely try to make us forget each other, but I don't think it will have much luck If it does, shame on us!
I wish that each one of us be here at the institute for the reunion, and by then each of us is rich, successful, and very very happy.
This blog ends here.

Backbenchers

"Ek din mar jayenge kutte ki maut,
gharwaale bolenge mar gaya m****c***,
m****c***....behen ka l..."

The first line of the IT anthem, we spent four years of our lives singing this song and doing
nothing worthwhile, of course when I use the word we, I refer to myself and people like myself,
people with the (as some of my friends would put it), "maa c****ye attitude". People who are at
the bottom of their class, and like it there. Not that they don't want to be among the toppers,
but then they think, whether it's really worth the effort, and decide that it's not.

(As usual, my apologies to feminists for using "he" everytime I refer to a third person.)

I started writing this blog thinking of something else, but as usual, with my short attention
span and wandering, restless mind, I land up else where, so now let me dedicate this blog to the
backbenchers of the world, just like the song above probably was. Were we always backbenchers? Well, the hero of a hindi movie might say: "Koi maa ke pet se chor nahi paida hota", but as for me dear friends, I don't know if I was born a backbencher, but I've been a backbencher for as long as my memory goes back.

But then the question arises who is a backbencher? In school would it be proper to call a guy who sits in the last bench and solves problems for JEE, a back bencher? well, I don't think so. A
backbencher is defined not by where the physical body sits, although, normally it's physically
the last bench too, but rather where the mind is (without fear??-pun intended). I'm saying this
because in our school, we had to rotate the seats, so I was not always at the last bench, but my
mind was always occupied with something that the gentleman or lady at the greenboard had nothing to do with. (Umm maybe the Computer class was different).

Why does one sit at the last bench? I think it's a difficult question to answer. There might be
several reasons, maybe the guy is a dud, and afraid that if he sits in the front row, he'll be
asked questions, or maybe he's intelligent but more interested in things that the idiots in the
first bench know nothing about, or there might be some other reason. But one thing that's
probably common to all kinds of backbenchers is that they don't want to attract the attention of
the teacher, or for that matter to pay attention to the teacher.

Once a backbencher, always a backbencher? I don't think so, Gates was a dropout, not sure but
probably he was a backbencher too. Besides as I said in the last para, backbenchers does'nt mean duds. So, it only needs for a backbencher to find something that interests him, and he's no
longer the backbencher. The only question is that of time. When?

Well, dear blog, and readers, this treatise on backbenchers might continue, or might not
depending on whether my wandering mind comes back to it, and also on your response. In the
meantime your comments are welcome.

Have a nice day.

A day in the life of a fourth year CSE-ITBHU student

He wakes up at 0800 hrs, yawns, stretches, turns the monitor of his computer on. He checks for any new mail, if theres any he reads them, after that or if there are none, he shoots off a few of his own. Now he opens orkut.com, and checks his scraps. Then he goes on to visit the communities of which he is a member, checks for new posts/threads, makes his own posts.By now the first period has already started, and since this guy does not like entering the class late, he decides to drop it, besides, there are two classes and a break in between, so he could manage to enter the class during the break, and get attendance for both periods >).So, he leaves his bed lazily, goes through the daily rituals of brushing, etc, etc. Has a cup of tea, then, checks orkut again for any replies to his post(s).At precisely 1000 hrs he leaves for class, taking the route of VT, watching the scenery about. He reaches the class at 1015 hrs, sits somewhere in the last row, and promptly dozes off. Wakes up at 1110 hrs, just as his roll no. is being called. The next class is of a subject that has zero credits, besides it's a non-departmental subject so he decides, to bunk it.So back to his hostel room he goes, naps for an hour, has lunch, naps for another hour, plays some game, preferbly some racing game, if he gets bored, he sometimes plays some VR or strategy game. Some days this routine varies just slghtly such that instead of class there is a game of cricket. Or sometimes he finds some friend online and chats for an hour or so.
As soon as the clock strikes 1600 hrs, he is called by other guys for a cuppa, or maybe he calls them. Returns from tea for another round of orkutting. Then he watches a movie or maybe reads a novel till 2000 hrs, which is the time for dinner. After dinner, sometimes he strolls off with friends, or alone, or goes back to his room for another round of surfing or gaming, this takes him past 0200 hrs of the next morning, at which time he sleeps off weary after another tiring day, awaiting the next day to start anew.
